How did you create 'Ocean Air' Coffee?
Hi, I'm Dr. Laura Richard, Chemist, COO and Co-Founder of Saltwinds Coffee Company.
My partner Brad told me a story he had heard years ago about how when coffee had first come to Canada on wooden ships the ocean air would infuse the beans. As the story was told, when the shipping industry switched to steel hulled ships the people wanted the old, better tasting coffee back. As a chemist I found this concept fascinated and set out test the plausibility of this story.
Testing 'Ocean Air' infusion
Through scientific experimentation, we have recreated the conditions that coffee would have experienced during its historic journey aboard wooden sailing ships.
As a result of our testing we have established our Pat Pending "Ocean Air Infusion Process". Using our process we have created for you our 'Ocean Air' coffee, a truly delicous coffee with enhanced flavours and a smooth, rich body.

Privateer’s Last Drink
This coffee cocktail captures the delicious flavors of Atlantic Canada in one smooth, rich cup. This Maritime cocktail won 3rd place in the International Cold Brew Championships in 2023!
Serves: 1
Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients:
- Ice cubes
- Saltwinds Ocean Air Cold Brew Coffee
- 1/2 teaspoon dulse
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
Directions:
- Add a handful of ice cubes into a cocktail shaker.
- Add the coffee, dulse, and maple syrup to the shaker.
- Shake thoroughly and strain into a glass filled with ice cubes.
